Halloween Harvest

Welcome to Murtagh’s Organic Farm first Halloween Harvest.

Hallow’s Eve - also known as the Gaelic festival “Samhain” a celtic harvest festival marking the end of summer and the start of winter.  It marks the return of herds from the pasture, which in pagan imagination was equated with the return of the dead.  Some people believe trick-or-treat evolved from presenting food and drink to the wandering spirits.  Celts believed that the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred.

Whatever your beliefs, we are looking forward to celebrating Halloween with a weekend full of imagination and fun for all the family.  There will be a Pumpkin Patch where you can pick out your own pumpkin.  One pumpkin holds the key to a €50 voucher!!  We will also have a kid’s craft station where you can bring your pumpkin and get creative with colouring.

Scarecrow Competition – get creative and enter our “build your own scarecrow” competition.  Click on the link to fill out the entry form and make sure you read the guidelines.  There will be an under & over 10-year-old category on each day with some super prizes to be won.

We will also have a trick-or-treat scavenger hunt throughout the day so bring your Halloween buckets with you.  We will be on the lookout for the best costume on each day with a chance to win a Halloween Hamper so get those scary costumes ready and come join us on the farm for a weekend not to be missed.  Our farm animals are really looking forward to seeing you all and it also marks the opening of our farm shop, along with our farmer’s market.
